Monitoring innovation both from a technological and socio-economic point of view has required the constitution of a multidisciplinary team of researchers and business analysts. Specifically, the Function includes management engineers, economists and graduates in the humanities field.
The team is responsible for supporting LINKS in defining new innovation and social impact strategies, as well as supporting research teams in technological business development by designing open innovation proposals for companies and start-ups. The proposals are usually built in a cross-industry perspective, based on the analysis and scouting of technological and socio-economic trends, business model analysis, tech advisory, definition of business cases and start-up due diligence activities with a focus on technological, financial and intellectual property aspects.
The Function has developed its own business valuation tools, to support companies and investors in the selection and assessment of start-ups for new acquisitions and / or investments. For this purpose and thanks to the expertise in the areas of innovation and early ventures, we are members of the Venture Capital Commission of AIFI - Italian Private Equity, Venture Capital and Private Debt Association.
The research team, monitors and analyzes national and international emerging technological trends and start-ups in the areas of FinTech, InsurTech and RegTech, therefore supervising the banking and insurance sectors. The long-term relationship with banking and insurance stakeholders - in particular, Intesa Sanpaolo banking group – played an essential role in consolidating our experience in such a competitive and knowledge intensive field.
The Function promotes the innovation culture within and outside the premises of LINKS, through the creation of a national and international network with companies, start-ups, incubators, research centers, universities and other institutional and private stakeholders. To do so, important partnerships agreements have been signed with the Departments of Management, Economic-Social Sciences and Mathematics-Statistics of the Università degli Studi di Torino (University of Turin) and with Intesa Sanpaolo banking group. A joint socio-economic research unit with Torino Nord Ovest, a social and educational enterprise, has also been created.
The team, on behalf of the partnership between LINKS and Politecnico di Torino, is also in charge of establishing a branch office (Chinese legal entity) in China. This project is one of many internationalization initiatives led by the Foundation.
Several team members are also involved in academic activities on strategic innovation management.
