The idea of SINTEC is that with its dynamic compliance and water repellent permeable encapsulation the soft, sticky and stretchable smart patch will withstand vigorous action, sweating and water, making it ideal for an active life. Its unique features will enable a ground breaking intra body communication technique that provides secure communication at large bandwidth and low power, allowing for multiplex sensoric inputs from many sensor nodes on the body.
A large amount of scientific results have emerged and a few start-ups are focused on stretchable electronics and sensors that employ liquid alloys for interconnects and passive components. However, there are today no dedicated commercial equipment for manufacturing of such devices. This hinders large-scale industrial exploration and needs to be addressed.
The research activity will be focused on stretchable RF-electronics: manufactured in stretchable substrates with liquid alloy interconnects and modular integration of rigid modules and components that have shown superior performance in compliance of large, highly conductive, interconnects for large area electronics and in robust, non-fatigue, electric contacts between rigid modules and the stretchable printed circuit board (PCB).
