Code4Europe is a European project launched in 2024 and funded by the Digital Europe programme with a budget of 6 million euro (action DIGITAL-2023-SKILLS-04-BOOSTINGDIGIT – DIGITAL-CSA Digital Coordination and Support Actions). The project aims to inspire and empower the next generation of young Europeans with strong digital skills, by promoting digital literacy and coding competences and facilitating access to the labour market in the ICT sector.
The EdTech Unit of LINKS is part of an international alliance of more than 40 leading organisations from the education and digital industry sectors, coming from over 20 European countries, to scale up and relaunch EU Code Week through Code4Europe.
Launched in 2013 as a grassroots movement and now funded by the European Commission, EU Code Week celebrates creativity, problem‑solving and collaboration through coding and digital skills across Europe. The idea is to make coding more tangible, to show young people, adults and seniors how to bring ideas to life with code, to demystify these skills and to bring together motivated people who want to learn.
A vision for Europe’s digital future
The mission of Code4Europe is to inspire and support the growth of the next generation of European citizens by strengthening digital skills, ensuring that digital competences and coding are accessible to everyone.
A European community enabled by synergic HUBs
To reinforce the link between the local and European levels, a network of national and regional Hubs has been established within Code4Europe and EU Code Week.
The Hubs are key contact points for promoting and disseminating information on EU Code Week and Code4Europe initiatives. They support EU Code Week Ambassadors and Leading Teachers in their local activities, and they help connect the needs of local communities with European initiatives in the field of digital education and coding.
In Italy, the EU Code Week National Hub is coordinated by LINKS, through its EdTech Unit, which contributes to:
- developing training pathways and educational resources for teachers and educators;
- promoting initiatives on digital careers and the participation of girls in STEM and ICT disciplines, such as Girls in Digital and Careers in Digital;
- building collaborations with companies and organisations at local level, also within the framework of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives linked to the EU Code Week European campaign #FutureReadyCSR and the related CSR Toolkit.
Why stay up to date with EU Code Week?
- Powered by the Code4Europe project, EU Code Week organises training initiatives throughout the year, involving schools, adult education centres, universities, research centres and companies. The goal is to promote digital careers, particularly for girls and young women, and to support teachers and educators in developing digital competences. You can discover activities and events on the official map: https://codeweek.eu/events
- EU Code Week promotes Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects. Through the #FutureReadyCSR campaign, it collaborates with companies, business networks, clusters, chambers of commerce and other actors from the digital ecosystem to develop high‑impact initiatives that improve digital education and community engagement.
Whatever your contribution – organising activities, joining events, promoting the opportunities offered by Code4Europe and EU Code Week – you will become part of a broader European initiative, crucial for fostering lifelong learning not only at school but also in professional contexts, in local communities and in active citizenship pathways.
