Tecnologie multispettrali non a contatto basate su IA per la tutela ambientale e l’economia circolare

Start Date: 01/07/2025
End Date: 30/06/2027

The EMERALD project addresses the themes of environmental monitoring and circular economy through the development of non-contact multispectral technologies based on AI and edge computing.
The distinctive element of the project is the combination of in-depth knowledge of spectral absorption physics and specific expertise in vision and automation, together with the use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and edge computing algorithms.

With a consortium that includes a large company, Cogne Acciai Speciali, an SME, Novasis Innovazione, two research centers, Fondazione Clément Fillietroz and LINKS, as well as two out-of-region end-users contributing with in-kind activities, three prototypes will be developed and demonstrated in the following use cases:

  • Automatic detection and classification of lubricants resulting from accidental spills in the internal water system at the treatment plant of the CAS partner (Aosta plant, TRL 7 prototype);
  • Automatic classification of plastics using a conveyor belt and a remote sensor operated by an anthropomorphic robot (demonstrated at the Novasis TechVisionLab, TRL 6 prototype, end-user Proplast);
  • Automatic classification of textile waste using a conveyor belt and a fiber sensor operated by an anthropomorphic robot (demonstrated at the Novasis TechVisionLab, TRL 6 prototype, end-user Retex.Green).

This project is carried out with the contribution of the European Union through the Bando Aggregazioni R&S – Transizione ecologica (Programma regionale Valle d’Aosta FESR 2021-2027)
