The European Strategy for Sustainable Mobility identifies three priorities: sustainable mobility, smart mobility, and resilient mobility.

The aim of the SMART project is to contribute to these priorities by enabling (and structuring) more responsible and sustainable mobility systems in the rural areas covered by the project and, more generally, in the territories of the Alcotra Program.

Thanks to SMART, the project area will consolidate cross-border and local governance with specific skills, knowledge, and integrated working methods on the issue of mobility in rural functional areas; it will have mobility programs for the respective functional areas, defined methodologically on a cross-border scale and operationally with local communities; it will have communities that are more sensitive to the issue, with mobility services defined on the basis of their needs and, therefore, easily integrated into daily mobility strategies, and which will have consolidated dynamics of dialogue and cooperation with local governance.
